Robert Shumann—

—Träumerei

Träumerei is the best-known piece from the piano set “Kinderszenen”, op.15, written by Robert Schumann. Schumann worked on this set during a difficult period of separation from his fiancée, Clara Wieck, who was on tour as a pianist and whose father objected to her marriage to the composer. In his letter to Clara, he stated: “once you said to me, sometimes I seem like a child when I face you. Whatever the influence is, I have my idea for these pieces and I finished them.”

Pastrol

Mongolian Folk Song—

Pastoral is a folk song of Chinese Mongolians. Mongolians’ folk melodies have two subcategories — Long Song and Short Song. Pastoral is a Long Song (In 2005, Long Song was identified as an Intangible Cultural Heritage). This special kind of melody is known of its high-register notes, lingering musical phrases, and dramatic leaps. Pastoral was originally played by Morin Quur — a traditional Mongolian two-string instrument that existed since more than 800 years ago.
